Do you need a TV licence for watching TV on a mobile phone?
Correct Answer: Yes
Yes. A TV licence is required to watch live television broadcasts or to use BBC iPlayer — regardless of the device used. This includes televisions, computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
The TV licence is paid to fund the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), which provides public service broadcasting. Watching live TV or using BBC iPlayer without a valid TV licence is a criminal offence and can result in a fine of up to £1,000. You do not need a licence to watch on-demand services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime or YouTube.
