What is the length of the Bayeux Tapestry?
Correct Answer: 230 feet
The Bayeux Tapestry is approximately 230 feet (about 70 metres) long and 50 centimetres wide. Despite its name, it is technically an embroidery — wool thread stitched onto linen — rather than a woven tapestry.
The tapestry depicts the events leading to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, culminating in the Battle of Hastings and the death of King Harold. It was probably commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, half-brother of William the Conqueror, and is now displayed in Bayeux, Normandy, France. It was listed as a UNESCO Memory of the World document in 2007.
