Which British scientist showed that gravity applied to the whole universe?
Correct Answer: Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton (1643–1727) showed that gravity applied not just to objects on Earth, but to the whole universe. His masterwork Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (1687) set out his law of universal gravitation — demonstrating mathematically that the same force causing an apple to fall to the ground also governs the motion of the Moon, the planets and all objects in space.
This was one of the greatest intellectual achievements in the history of science, unifying terrestrial and celestial physics for the first time. Newton was born in Lincolnshire and later became a professor at Cambridge University and President of the Royal Society.
