Where did Mary, Queen of Scots, spend most of her childhood?
Correct Answer: France
Mary, Queen of Scots spent most of her childhood in France. She was sent there at age five in 1548, following the defeat of Scotland at the Battle of Pinkie, for her own safety. She was betrothed to the French Dauphin (heir to the French throne) Francis.
Mary became Queen consort of France when Francis became King Francis II in 1559. After his death in 1560, she returned to Scotland in 1561 to rule. She was eventually imprisoned by her cousin Queen Elizabeth I and executed in 1587.
