When was the first Union Flag created?
Correct Answer: 1606
The first Union Flag was created in 1606, three years after James VI of Scotland became James I of England in 1603, uniting the two crowns. The original flag combined the Cross of St George (England) and the Cross of St Andrew (Scotland).
The current Union Flag — with the addition of the Cross of St Patrick (Ireland) — was created in 1801 when Ireland was united with Great Britain under the Act of Union. The Union Flag is one of the most recognisable national symbols in the world and is commonly (though incorrectly) referred to as the "Union Jack."
