How often are the general elections held in the UK?
Correct Answer: Every 5 years
General elections in the UK are held every 5 years.
The Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 established a default five-year cycle. However, the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 returned the power to dissolve Parliament to the Crown, allowing early elections to be called at the Prime Minister's request.
All eligible voters aged 18 and over can vote in a general election to elect their local Member of Parliament (MP).
