In which country of the British Empire did the Boer War take place?
Correct Answer: South Africa
The Boer War (1899–1902) took place in South Africa. It was fought between the British Empire and two Boer republics — the South African Republic (Transvaal) and the Orange Free State — which were settled by descendants of Dutch colonists known as Boers.
The war was primarily over control of South Africa's gold and diamond resources. Britain ultimately won, but the conflict was costly and controversial, particularly due to the use of concentration camps in which thousands of Boer civilians, women and children died. Following the war, the Boer states were incorporated into the Union of South Africa (1910).
