What is the name given to the system used to deal with children and young people who have committed an offence in Scotland?
Correct Answer: The Children's Hearings System
In Scotland, the system for dealing with children and young people who have committed an offence is called the Children's Hearings System.
Established under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968, it is a welfare-based system where a panel of trained volunteers (the "hearing") considers the child's needs and circumstances.
The focus is on the best interests of the child rather than punishment. Scotland does not have a Youth Court system as such.
